Gutter blowouts

Compressed air drives packed needles and grit out of the trough without a ladder resting on the gutter lip, which is what bends front edges out of level.

How a Cleaning Visit Runs

From the first inspection to the final walkthrough, here is exactly what to expect when you work with CL Roofing & Renovations. No surprises, no hidden costs.

Initial Consultation & Assessment

We walk the roof and the gutter line first, noting where debris collects, whether outlets drain, and whether the trough still falls toward the downspout. That decides the order of work.
02

Detailed Estimate & Planning

Roof surface comes first. Debris and moss are cleared from valleys, vent backs and behind chimneys and worked down-slope, because anything swept into the gutter only has to be removed twice.
03

Expert Installation

Troughs are blown out, then downspouts are cleared and flushed to confirm water reaches the ground. A plugged elbow holds a full gutter no matter how clean the trough looks.
04

Final Walkthrough & Cleanup

Ground debris is collected and cleared away. If we spot lifted shingles, a soft fascia board or a sagging run while we are up there, we tell you what we saw and where.

How often do gutters need cleaning on the coast?
Twice a year suits most coastal properties: once in late spring, after cedar flowering, catkins, maple seeds and blossom have finished dropping, and once in late autumn when the deciduous leaves and the bulk of the conifer needle drop are down. Under mature firs or cedars, three visits is more realistic, because conifers shed through the year rather than in one clean drop. A roof with no overhanging trees can often run on a single autumn clean.
Should I pressure wash moss off my roof?
No. Asphalt shingles are protected by a layer of ceramic granules bonded to the surface. A pressure washer strips those granules and drives water up under the shingle courses, which shortens the roof by years to make it look clean for a season. Moss is better lifted dry and worked down-slope. Whatever regrows is a light and airflow problem, not something pressure fixes.
Does moss actually damage a roof, or is it just cosmetic?
It damages. Moss holds water against the shingle long after the rest of the roof has dried, so the mat stays damp. It also grows under the tab edges and lifts them, which breaks the wind seal and gives driven rain a path in. North slopes and shaded sections go first, which is why one side of a roof often fails before the other.
What actually happens when gutters overflow?
Water does not just spill to the ground. It backs up behind the trough and runs down the fascia, soaking the fascia board, the rafter tails and the outer edge of the sheathing. Overflow also splashes against siding and, on freezing nights, refreezes at the edge and forces water back under the shingles. The damage is not limited to the gutter: a frozen overflow load pulls hangers and tears gutters off the fascia as well.
Do gutter guards mean I can stop cleaning?
No, they change the job rather than remove it. Mesh and screen guards hold leaves out reasonably well, but fir and cedar needles are fine enough to pass through or knit into a mat on top. Debris then sits on the lid, holds moisture and sheds fines into the trough anyway. Guarded gutters still need checking, and the guards usually have to come off to do it properly.
