Choosing the line
Cambridge, Dynasty and Nordic differ in weight, nailing zone width and cold flexibility. The right line depends on the pitch, exposure and wind the roof actually sees.

Deck and sheathing
Rot shows up at eaves, in valleys and around old vents. Any soft or delaminated sheathing found at tear off is identified and priced before new material goes over it.

Eave and valley protection
Ice and water membrane runs from the eave to at least 24 inches past the inside face of the exterior wall, and through valleys where ice backs water up.

Starter and ridge cap
Cut field shingles make poor starter. Purpose made starter strip puts sealant right at the edge, and hips and ridges are capped with matching ridge pieces.

Initial Consultation & Assessment
We come out for a free on-site estimate, measure the roof, and check pitch and existing layers. What we find decides the shingle line, the ventilation plan and the written itemized quote.

Detailed Estimate & Planning
Old shingles and underlayment come off down to the bare deck. The sheathing is then inspected, and any damaged sections found underneath are quoted before new material goes on.

Expert Installation
Drip edge, then ice and water membrane at eaves and valleys, then synthetic underlayment lapped up the slope. Step and counter flashing and new stack boots go in as the courses reach them.

Final Walkthrough & Cleanup
Starter at eaves and rakes, field courses run to the manufacturer's exposure and nailing pattern, then ridge vent and cap. Flashing details are finished and the roof is walked before the job is closed out.

What is the difference between IKO Cambridge, Dynasty and Nordic?
IKO laminated lines differ mostly in weight, nailing zone and wind rating. Cambridge is the standard laminate and the most common choice on Canadian houses. Dynasty adds the ArmourZone reinforced nailing strip, which gives a wider fastening target and a higher wind rating. Nordic is a heavier board built with SBS modified asphalt, which stays flexible in cold and handles impact better. Cost climbs in that order.
How long does an IKO shingle roof actually last?
The number on the wrapper is a warranty term, not a service life. A laminated asphalt roof usually gives 20 to 30 years of real service. What shortens it is heat and moisture trapped in an under vented attic, which cooks the asphalt from below, and overhanging branches that hold moisture and drop debris into the valleys.
Can new shingles be installed over the old ones?
Many codes allow a second layer, but only where the existing roof is sound, dry and not already double layered, and some jurisdictions and shingle manufacturers restrict it further. Even where it is permitted it buys problems. You cannot inspect or repair the deck, the new shingles telegraph the ridges of the old ones, and flashings usually get reused instead of replaced. A full tear off is the better job.
Do I need more attic vents when the roof is replaced?
Usually the shortfall is intake, not exhaust. A common rule of thumb is one square foot of net free vent area for every 300 square feet of attic floor, split close to evenly between soffit and ridge, though the ratio your roof has to meet depends on local code and on whether a vapour barrier is present. Blocked soffit vents or insulation stuffed into the eaves stall the whole system.
Can IKO shingles be installed in winter?
Yes, with adjustments. The sealant strip needs warmth and sun to bond, so in cold weather it may not set until spring, and tabs are hand sealed in wind exposed areas in the meantime. Shingles also turn brittle below freezing and crack if flexed or dropped, so bundles are kept warm and cut with fresh blades.
